Out and About
Hawes with its Tuesday market is the centre of activity for Upper Wensleydale with opportunities for walking or touring in all directions, and having within easy reach many places of interest with its adjoining dales of Swaledale, Cotterdale, Dentdale, Garsdale, Wharfdale and Chapel-le-Dale. There are many impressive waterfalls, beautiful dales villages, caves, railways as well as many miles of paths, bridleways and lanes over the fells or on the banks of the River Ure waiting to be explored. The Pennine Way long distance path passes the gate or why not walk the Herriot Way.
For evening meals there are a good variety of good eating places within walking distance and tables can be booked for you if required.

Some suggestions for touring:
Ribblehead (viaduct) to Ingleton (falls) Inglebrough.
Gayle through to Fleet Moss, Langstrothdale, Kettlewell and onto picturesque Grassington.
Or try down the Dale to Askrigg, Aysgarth, West Burton, leading onto the market towns of Leyburn and then Richmond.
Garsdale then onto Sedbergh and ending up at Kirby Stephen.
Dentdale, Barbondale leading to Kirkby Lonsdale.
Buttertubs and then onto the Swaledale villages.
